At the highly charged night of nights for Queensland theatre, Wilbur the Optical Whale, by indelabilityarts, has been awarded the 2022 Best Independent Production Award!
Last night’s 2022 Matilda Awards marks the first ceremony in two years. Throughout the ceremony we were reminded of how tough it has been for performing artists, how glad we are to see live theatre back on stage, and how much support there is within the Queensland theatrical community to keep live theatre where it should be.
The Best Independent Production award is well deserved for indelabilityarts’ and Flipside Circus’ performance at the 2021 Brisbane Festival, presented by Metro Arts. It is an amazing achievement and a credit to everyone involved in developing the show. Wilbur is a unique and inclusive story indelabilityarts has brought to the stage.
Wilbur has been on an amazing journey. The show started life as a joint development between indelabilityarts and Flipside Circus. Its international debut was at the 2020 Adelaide Fringe Festival, followed by a tour of regional Queensland in 2021, sold out shows at Metro Arts for the 2021 Brisbane Festival, and recently returned from a season at the 2022 Adelaide Fringe Festival.
Keep an eye out for Wilbur’s upcoming 2022 tour to regional Queensland!
